The MCCQE exam Part I is a computer-based multiple-choice test that assesses the candidate’s and applicant’s medical knowledge and clinical decision-making skills. You should note that passing the first part of the MCCQE exam is very important for international doctors who intend to participate in Canadian residency programs. In other words, you must pass the first part of the MCCQE exam to apply for a medical license from the Medical Council of Canada.

MCCQE exam paart1 eligibility requirements

In order to participate in the MCCQE part 1 exam, you must first meet one of the following conditions:

1.Be a graduate or a student studying in one of the accredited medical schools in Canada and approved by the Accreditation Committee of Canadian Medical Schools

2.If you have graduated from other medical schools, you should note that your school is included in the global list of acceptable medical schools in Canada.

3.The American Osteopathic Association approves the American Osteopathic School, if you have graduated from this school, you are also eligible for the MCCQE Part 1 exam.

Limited exam attempts

  • You can take the MCCQE part 1 exam a maximum of 4 times.
  • Each time you start the test, it counts as one attempt.

If you have participated in the exam multiple times before 2018, those attempts will not be considered for you, don’t worry.

  • If your test is without a score of No Standing, this test will not count as an attempt for you
  • If your result is “Fail” or “Rejected”, it counts as an attempt.
  • If you have already passed, you cannot take the test again.
  • After the third attempt, you must wait one year from the date of receiving your result to apply for the fourth attempt. It should be noted that you cannot change or cancel this one-year wait.
  • The rules apply equally to all candidates.

The MCCQE exam Part 1 syllabus

The MCCQE part 1 exam requires a comprehensive understanding of medical subjects in the field of basic sciences and clinical subjects and assesses the applicant in the following areas.

Identification requirements for MCCQE1 exam

To participate in the MCCQE part 1 exam, you must bring a valid identity document issued by the government. Please note that if you do not have a valid identity document, you will not be able to participate in the exam and the fee you have paid will not be refunded.

  • The proof of identity that you must provide must include the following
  • You have to present the original identification document, even a scan of the document is not acceptable
  • The provided identification must contain your photo and signature
  • The document must match the name you have registered on your physiciansapply.ca account

If you do not have a certificate that meets the above requirements and you want to use the Canadian Refugee Protection Certificate, you must contact the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) before the test day.

How to apply for the MCCQE Part I

To register as a Canadian medical student or graduate, follow the steps below:

1.Preparation of acceptable identity documents

2.Read the preparation guide from the site

3.Log in to your physiciansapply.ca account and follow the steps below

  • Click on the Examinations option that is displayed in the main menu
  • Select Apply for an exam option

4.Upload the necessary documents according to the instructions

5.Paying for the MCCQE exam part 1

6.Wait for your request to be processed

Please note that the processing time may take up to 4 weeks, so be patient and after your application is accepted, you will see a confirmation message in your account, and now you can plan for the exam.

Registration procedures for international students for the MCCQE part 1 exam:

1.Preparation of identity documents which must comply with MCC requirements

2.Completing the Student Attestation Form You must upload the Student Attestation Form to the site after completing it. It should be noted that you must receive this form from your medical school.

3.Log in to your account at physiciansapply.ca

4.Applying for an exam: Log in to the user account you entered, click on the Examinations option from the main menu, and then click on the Apply for an exam option.

5.Paying the exam fee

6.Wait until the result of your application processing is sent to you, it may take up to a week, so be patient

If you have already applied for the MCCQE Part 1 exam and now need to reapply, you should consider the following:

  • If you were an international medical student or a US medical student and your medical completion date has changed, you must submit a new Student Verification Form.
  • If you were a student and have now graduated, you must submit a Verification of Qualification (SVR) through the physiciansapply.ca account.
  • If you have already submitted your medical certificate for review, there is no need to submit it again.

Note: If your identity documents have expired, you must provide new identity documents.
